FAQ
Frequently asked questions about hunting farms in Namibia
Do I pay more booking through TheEcoHunter than booking direct?
No. You pay the same rates as booking directly with the farm. Our advice and planning cost you nothing extra.
Is there a guarantee that I will take my animal?
No. On unfenced farms the game moves freely across farm boundaries, and numbers vary with the season, water and grazing. That is why none of our farms offers guarantees – and why every hunt here is a real hunt.
How does guiding work?
You hunt either 1:1 (one hunter with one guide) or 2:1 (two hunters with one guide). The daily rate depends on the type of guiding. All hosts and guides speak English.
Do you hunt for trophy size?
No. We hunt for age, not size. Your guide selects mature, past-prime animals that have already passed on their genes – in line with Namibia's age-based ART scoring system, which NAPHA uses for its medals. If you are looking for record-book size above all, we are not the right partner.
Can non-hunting companions come along?
Yes. Many farms offer horseback safaris, hikes, a pool and farm drives. Rates are charged per day, not per night. Not every farm suits companions equally well – ask us and we will advise you.
What does a typical hunting day look like?
The day starts with an early breakfast at sunrise, followed by the morning stalk. Lunch and a rest follow at midday, then coffee and cake in the afternoon and another stalk until sunset. The evening ends around the campfire.
How do I get my hunting memorabilia home?
Shipping costs depend on volume and weight and are shared proportionally – there are no flat rates. For the U.S., your shipment must clear U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service inspection at a designated port. Tell us what you have in mind (for example an oryx shoulder mount or a skull plaque) and we will give you a rough cost estimate.
Guide
Step by step: how to choose the right hunting farm in Namibia
With its varied landscapes and abundant wildlife, Namibia is an ideal destination for your next hunt. English is widely spoken, and the country is known as one of Africa's safest and best-organized hunting destinations. This guide helps you choose the right farm.
Step 1: Choose a farm where your species is native
When planning a hunt in Namibia, check where the species you want to hunt is native and whether the population there is stable. Many hunting farms offer game that does not naturally occur in the region. If free-range hunting matters to you, ask exactly. Our game species page shows where each species occurs.

Step 2: The species determines the region
The range of your species determines the possible regions and landscapes. Plains game such as kudu, oryx and springbok is found across much of the country. Depending on your interests, you can hunt in desert-like plains, the red dunes of the Kalahari or the mountains. Dangerous game is only found in the north of Namibia. Hunting takes place either on private farms or in concessions. More on our hunting areas in Namibia page.

Step 3: Look for fair chase and age-based selection
Ask how the farm hunts: on foot, in unfenced country, and for which animals. On all farms on this page you stalk native, free-range game, and your guide selects old, past-prime animals. Namibia's ART scoring system rewards exactly that – age, not size.

Step 4: What do you expect from the accommodation?
The accommodation becomes part of your trip. There are simple tented camps in the middle of the bush, rustic and cozy guest rooms in the farmhouse and upscale hunting lodges with pool, views and modern amenities. The right choice depends on what you are looking for and your budget.

Step 5: What else would you like to do?
On many farms, activities are included or can be booked:
- Relaxing at the pool
- Horseback safaris
- Night drives and 4x4 drives
- Hikes and rock art
- Bush camping under the stars
Guests especially value the glimpse into everyday farm life. Many of these farms cover thousands of acres and raise cattle or horses alongside the hunting, kept in certain areas behind stock-proof fences.

Step 6: Compare rates and what is included
The daily rate usually includes accommodation, full board with drinks, drives on the farm and the organization of the hunt. Companions pay less. You will find a full overview on our 2027 hunting prices page. Look forward to Namibian cooking: you are fully catered and enjoy the country's venison specialties.

Step 7: Traveling with family, friends or a partner?
Namibia is not only a hunting destination, but also a great vacation for the whole family. Ask in advance what the farm offers non-hunting companions while you are out hunting. Find ideas in our hunting experiences for the whole family.

Step 8: Consider a tour after the hunt
Namibia is a vast country with untouched landscapes, diverse cultures and fascinating wildlife. Add a tour after your hunt – self-drive with camping or with lodge stays. Since you are flying all the way to Africa, it is well worth it. Find inspiration in our tour ideas.
