Namibia Hunting Prices
2027
All costs of a hunting trip at a glance (2027)
How much does a hunting trip to Namibia cost?
Flights from the U.S. to Namibia
Economy round trip: from approx. €1,300*
*depends heavily on season, departure city and routing
The first cost to plan for is your flight. There are no non-stop flights from North America to Windhoek, so you fly with one stop – for example via Frankfurt or Munich (Discover Airlines), Johannesburg, Doha or Addis Ababa. An economy round trip from the U.S. typically starts at around €1,300 and can be considerably more in peak season.
- Book about 3–6 months in advance for the best fares.
- Compare routings on Google Flights, then book directly with the airline if you travel with a rifle – it makes registering the firearm and any changes much easier.
- Register your rifle with the airline by phone in advance.
- With a firearm, avoid transiting South Africa unless you have a South African temporary firearm permit (SAPS 520). Routing via Frankfurt/Munich or Addis Ababa is usually simpler – please check each airline’s firearm rules.
- Plan an overnight stop on the way if you want to arrive rested.
Visa for U.S. and UK citizens
Since April 1, 2025, U.S. and UK citizens need a visa for Namibia, even as tourists. It costs NAD 1,600 (approx. €85) and is valid for up to 90 days. You can apply online in advance or get a visa on arrival at Windhoek airport. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your trip, with at least two blank pages.
Daily rate
on the farm
Daily rate: €200 – €400
Companion: €120 – €200
The daily rate covers far more than accommodation: it usually includes all meals, laundry, drives on the farm and guiding, often also the airport transfer. In 2027 the daily rate on our farms is between €200 and €400 per hunter and hunting day, depending on guiding (1:1 or 2:1). Non-hunting companions and rest days cost about €120 to €200 per person and day.
Trophy
fees
Depends on the species.
See “Game species”
A maximum of two animals of the same species may be exported per hunter.
Depending on the species, trophy fees start at about €350. They are paid to the hunting farm. Our game species overview shows a price range for each species. The fee includes the hunting permit required to export your hunting memorabilia. The farm applies for this personal permit in advance; it needs your address, a copy of your passport and your hunting dates.
Bringing your rifle
Own rifle (airline fees): €0 – €500
Rental rifle in Namibia:
€20 – €50/day
Ammunition: approx. €5 – €7/round
Firearm fees depend on the airline – some carry a rifle as part of your baggage allowance, others charge up to about €250 per leg. Register the rifle with the airline in advance. Before leaving the U.S., fill in CBP Form 4457 at a U.S. Customs office to prove you own the firearm when you return. In Windhoek, the police issue a temporary import permit on arrival (bring the invitation letter from the farm and the import/export form).
Alternatively, rent a rifle on the farm for €20 – €50 per day, ammunition approx. €5 – €7 per round.
Insurance
Travel medical & evacuation insurance: required
Trip cancellation & interruption: recommended
Liability: check your existing policies
Travel medical insurance including medical evacuation is mandatory: you must show proof when entering Namibia. Many U.S. health plans do not cover you abroad, so check before you travel. Trip cancellation and interruption insurance is strongly recommended for a trip of this size.
On-site costs
Alcoholic drinks:
approx. €2-3/drink
Gratuities on the farm: €15-20/day
SIM card: approx. €1 + data
Activities: depends on activity
Plan for a few extra costs on site, for example:
- Alcoholic drinks
- Gratuities: on the farm, about 10% of the daily rate or €15–20 per person and day is customary. It is voluntary and handed to the farm owner in cash at the end of your stay, who shares it among the staff.
- SIM card and data: an MTC SIM card costs about NAD 20 (approx. €1) at the airport, plus a data bundle (e.g. “Aweh”) for your stay.
- Activities such as horseback riding, mountain biking, farm drives or excursions
Touring after your hunt
Depends on your budget
Since you are flying all the way to Africa, it is well worth adding a tour after your hunt. Namibia is a stunning country with plenty to see and do – favorite destinations include Sossusvlei, Damaraland, Etosha National Park and Swakopmund.
Field preparation
from €40/animal
Field preparation (skinning, cleaning, bleaching or salting the skins) is usually done by the farm. Everything is then taken to the taxidermist or the shipping agent.
Taxi-
dermy
You can have your animal mounted in Namibia or ship it home in dip-and-pack condition for a taxidermist in the U.S.

Shipping to the U.S.
Depends on type, weight, size and number of items.
The price depends on size, weight and number of items (packing, consolidated air freight, transport insurance, veterinary certificates …), so an individual quote is needed. Shipments to the U.S. must be cleared by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service at a designated port, usually through a customs broker. Some species need additional CITES or U.S. import permits – we will advise you before your hunt.

plus
All in all, a hunting trip to Namibia typically costs between about €4,000 and €7,000 from the U.S., depending on the length of your stay, the hunt you choose and the lodge. That is still good value compared with many other African destinations.

4 tips to keep the cost of your hunting trip down:
✓ Fly in the off-season – fares can be much lower outside peak travel times
✓ Choose 2:1 instead of 1:1 guiding (the daily rate depends on the guiding)
✓ Travel as a small group for further price advantages (get in touch!)
✓ Rent a rifle instead of bringing your own – depending on the length of your stay, check what pays off for you. A rental rifle costs €20–50/day; flying with your own rifle costs from nothing up to €500 depending on the airline.
Transparent daily rates and fees on each farm profile
By the way, at first glance the daily rates may look quite different. But every farm has its own cost structure: some charge higher daily rates and lower trophy fees, others lower daily rates and higher trophy fees. In the end the total costs even out and are all in a similar range.
